"Demise"

The deep-space colony ship Astral Star, moments after the catastrophic accident that would become known as the worst disaster in human spacefaring history. Moyer and colonists from Sunopa departed a reception only minutes before, the ship being scheduled to depart imminently. The full extent of the devastation made investigation difficult, but theories include a previously unknown theoretical upper limit to vessel mass and shearing forces or an error in calculating the fuel intermix ratio resulting in engine failure. 8,718 souls perished in the accident, and debris caused a further 23 deaths on the Arcadia Plains.
